National Artists make Formal Presentations
Four finalists will make formal presentations of their designs for the creation of a world-class Veteran’s Memorial to be constructed in the heart of Las Vegas at Huntridge Circle Park. The artists will present their concepts on June 23rd at the Historic Fifth Street School in downtown Las Vegas. The artists, as well as their presentations, will be available for viewing at the Historic Fifth Street School auditorium from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. on the 23rd. The design maquettes will also be available for public viewing and comment through July at various locations throughout Las Vegas (see Tour Schedule on our Home Page). National artists have been selected to present maquettes of their designs for the construction of the Las Vegas Veterans Memorial. These artists are well known for creating many public works of art including Joan Benefiel’s Vietnam War Veterans Monument for Nassau County on Long Island, N.Y.; Daub & Firmin’s National Salute to the Military and U.S.S. San Diego Memorial at the Port of San Diego, Calif.; Cliff Garten’s Veteran’s Memorial project in Walnut Creek, Calif.; and Douwe Blumberg’s New Jersey Fallen Soldiers Monument at historic Picatinny Arsenal. The Las Vegas Veterans Memorial Association is working in conjunction with the city of Las Vegas. Upon completion, the Memorial will be donated to the city of Las Vegas as a public art project. One hundred percent of funding for the construction of the project will be made through private funding and donations.
